Food Chronicles: Crispy Tofu

I am starting a new series. It will document my adventures into vegan and vegetarian food. Both the successes and the failures. As many of you know, becoming more sustainable with my consumption habits is a new venture. Eating in a more sustainable way is a VERY new experience, but I am making the best out of a bad situation during COVID and trying to both eat healthier & eat more sustainably.

Want to learn how to make crispy delicious tofu?!

First you press your firm tofu and cut it into 1/2 inch squares. If you have never pressed tofu before here is a video.

Toss tofu squares in sesame oil until lightly covered and spread on a parchment paper covered baking sheet. Bake at 370 degrees. Bake for 20 min and then turn. Bake for another 15 minutes and they are ready to eat!

My 2 Favorite Brands for this Recipe are:

  • House Foods Firm Tofu:
    • undefined
  • Trader Joe’s Firm Tofu:

I choose to use my tofu in a rice bowl. I made a basic recipe for spicy mayo and paired it with some coleslaw that I whipped up by mixing together rice vinegar, honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sesame seeds.

I didn’t use a particular recipe for my coleslaw. I just mix in a lot of vinegar and keep adding a sugar (honey), a salt (soy sauce), and a fat (sesame oil) until I hit a flavor that I enjoy and is a little too intense to eat on its own. If you are looking for more an exact recipe use this.

Happy Cooking!
